Sleep apnea is a condition where you temporarily stop breathing during sleep because your airway becomes obstructed as the muscles in your mouth relax, releasing your tongue backward towards your throat. This is often treated using a bulky CPAP machine. However, your dentist can make you a small, custom dental appliance similar to a mouthguard that can be used to keep your airway free from obstruction during sleep.
